Nairobi Azimio MCAs have called on supporters of Opposition leader Raila Odinga to turn up in their numbers on Friday to welcome him at the JKIA.

In a press briefing on Thursday, the MCAs led by Majority Whip Moses Ogeto said that their presence at the airport will be peaceful.

“We will be at the JKIA as early as 6am to welcome our beloved party leader Raila Odinga. Let all supporters join their leaders at the airport," he said.

Majority Leader Peter Imwatok urged the police to cease using force and tear gas in order to avert turning their peaceful procession into chaos.

“We love peace and don’t take our kindness for cowardice.  We just want to peacefully welcome our leader home for a mega rally in Kibra,” he said.

Imwatok further recommended that the police should provide security for their convoy of 20 land rovers;  ten at the front and five on either side.

Raila has been in Dubai for the past one week and is set to return home on Friday to a heroic reception at the airport.

He will head straight to Kibra where he will address a rally.

National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi had earlier said Azimio will unleash the opposition’s scheduled activities for next month during the Kibra rally.

“As a party, we are gearing to accord him a grand welcome on arrival at the JKIA, then join him in a grand procession to the people’s Baraza at the Kamkunji Grounds, Kibra Constituency, on the same day. The Rt. Hon. Odinga will address the nation at the said meeting,” he said.

Before he left for Dubai, Raila said he will announce a return of weekly mass demonstrations after Ramadan to continue mounting pressure on the Kenya Kwanza government over a number of issues.

He wants the cost of living lowered, IEBC servers opened and forensically analysed, reconstitution of the electoral commission done through consensus and Kenya's democratic space respected.
