President William Ruto has arrived at Field Marshall Mukami Kimathi's home in Njabini for her burial.
The President arrived shortly after 10.30 am in the morning.
He was accompanied by the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi among other top government officials.
Ruto eulogised Mukami as a strong woman who courageously withstood the brutality of colonial oppression and proudly wore the scars of the battle.
"She bore the terrible losses of war with admirable fortitude," he said.
The President described her as a steadfast patriot and well-known champion for national unity who inspired many Kenyans of all ages to cherish our country and stand ready to defend our values.
"After winning the war for independence, Mama Mukami was left behind to fend and win the struggle to provide for her children in the absence of Field Marshall Kimathi. In her characteristic way, she also won this war," the president stated.
"I pray that the Almighty God grant you his divine solace at this time of sorrow. We shall honour her memory and treasure her legacy. May God rest her soul in everlasting peace."
Mukami is the wife to freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi.
She died aged 96 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi after developing breathing difficulties.
Mukami passed away on Thursday night, May 4, 2023.
Earlier, there was a public viewing of Mukami's body at Lee funeral home before heading to Njambini for burial.
