Ruto hands Mudavadi, Duale and Mvurya more roles in Cabinet

The three will temporarily head the ministries of Information, Agriculture, and Trade respectively

President William Ruto has handed additional responsibilities to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Cabinet Secretaries Aden Duale and Salim Mvurya.

In the latest appointments, Mudavadi who is also the current Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs will be the acting CS in the Ministry of Information, Communications, and The Digital Economy.

Duale, who is the current Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry CS will take additional responsibilities as the acting CS in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development.

Salim Mvurya, who was recently reassigned to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, will continue in an acting capacity at the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry.

He had served in Trade ministry for barely four months.

The three will hold forte as the nominees to the respective cabinet portfolios wait for vetting and subsequent confirmation by the National Assembly.

“Following the changes effected within Cabinet on 19th December, 2024 and as the Cabinet Secretary nominees undergo the requisite parliamentary approval process, His Excellency the President has assigned acting Cabinet Secretaries to the vacant ministerial portfolios,” Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said.

This comes a few days after Ruto tapped the services of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies to improve on his administration’s service delivery.

The three include Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture and Livestock Development), William Kabogo (Information, Communications and the Digital Economy) and Lee Kinyanjui (Investments, Trade and Industry).

Their nominations followed a meeting between Ruto and Uhuru, at the former Head of State’s residence in Ichaweri.

The new Cabinet nominees will be vetted by the Committee on Appointments on January 14, 2025.
