Seme MP James Nyikal has opined that Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Wafula must have President William Ruto's backing to be successful in the fight against corruption in her ministry.

Nyikal spoke on Friday in an interview with Citizen TV.

He said one person cannot clear corruption on their own even if the person is a minister.

"The only person who can clear corruption is the President. Because even if the minister was not corrupt, but she was not supported at the top and all other ministers don't support her, she is the one who will be ousted," Nyikal said.

He claimed corruption in the health sector is a whole system and if Wafula is to clear it, she must have the President's support.

The MP said even if the CS had sworn to 'uproot evil spirits at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority', she cannot do it alone.

This comes as Wafula swore to root out any corruption in the health sector.

She said she is committed to cleaning up Kemsa and restoring it to its lost glory.

Wafula spoke on Thursday when he inaugurated the new board at the Embakasi depot.

She said she will go after anybody implicated in graft irrespective of their rank.

"We have individual culprits who taint the image of this institution. I will not stop at anything even if it means sending home a whole department. I am ready to deal with it," she said.

"This institution must be clean, we are going to uproot all the roots, all the evil spirits that have been planted in this institution," she added.

She called on staff who suspect any dubious incidences at the authority to inform her, saying she will name and shame anyone brought to her attention.
