Former IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe is under backlash after a tweet she made about former President Mwai Kibaki that appeared to be a sublime attack on former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Akombe in the tweet said:
"I do miss when we had a dignified retired President Mwai Kibaki. No drama. No tantrums. No chaos. Just quietly doing his stuff," she tweeted on Tuesday.
Kibaki retired from the State House in 2013 and led a low profile.
He made rare public appearances including a speech at the UoN in December 2013.
Her statement comes after Uhuru on Monday led a Jubilee National Delegates Conference in Nairobi.
Speaking during the event, he warned those attempting to 'hijack" the party, saying he will not be moved by threats.
He confirmed that he will not be retiring from active politics as suggested by critics.
Uhuru also accused some leaders of insulting others during Church services.
In an apparent attack on Ruto and his allies, Uhuru lashed out at the Kenya Kwanza leaders for hurling insults at church functions.
"If we want to talk, let's talk respectfully. There are experts in that, let them continue. They go to church instead of praying they hurl insults," Uhuru said.
The former president had been leading a 'political-free' life, focusing on his duty at the African Union, until February.
Then, he re-affirmed his support to opposition chief Raila Odinga.
"Even though I have retired from politics, I'm still a follower of Raila. If he asks me we go we have to do it. I supported him and I will continue doing so because I believe he is truthful," Uhuru said.
Following the tweet, Kenyans on Twitter expressed their disapproval of the tweet.
Here are some of the comments:
At what age ?Comparing a 90yr old man to a 60yr old man is unfair, let UK thrive the way he knows best and he does not need those packs he is a billionaire.

his age at retirement is quite different with uhurus, let uhuru do what he loves till he is old and you are forgetting uhuru is the defacto opposition leader

Maybe we should ask Mzee @AtwoliDza what he saw in Uhuru when he said he’s too young to retire. For an old man I’m sure he saw something he should whisper to the ‘young men’

I miss Gabriel Mukele who served at ECK and retired in peace and does not remind us of what we want to forget.

Akombe do you ever take time to read the Kenyan constitution? How old was Kibaki when he retired? And wait hasn't Uhuru been quiet all along? You can't go around looking for trouble and then play the victim.

But no one provoked the late president mwai kibaki while in retirement.

As we have always believed, even you, you chose a side. From the history of your tweets, it should be known by now you are a Kenya Kwanza sympathizer.

UHURU was going to give his seat & settle quietly but he knows he should fight what is a political battle now to protect Jubilee
You are just involving uhuru in politics, the guy has never spoken since he gave power to ruto. Na nyinyi ni kila mahali uhuru, uhuru, uhuru ali, uhuru ame. Bwana hii jina mmeitaja sana, ata kama ni wewe lazima utoke ujipee defence

Remaining dignified doesn't mean he should keep quiet even when his political enemies are treading on his toes. Kibaki was never intimidated after exiting the office.
