Raila Odinga's chief agent during the August polls Saitabao Kanchory has revealed why he has taken a back seat in Azimio even as the outfit engages the government in a heated confrontation.

Little has been heard from him since the release of his book Why Baba is not the 5th on April 13.

Kanchory, who has previously blamed Raila's loss on disorganisation and infighting within Azimio, alluded his absence from the outfit's engagements to abandonment.

He put the implied desertion in perspective in his reaction to a video clip in which self-proclaimed Bunge la Wananchi president Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho was lamenting about alleged neglect by Azimio whenever he is arrested.

"Hii kitu imeniuma zaidi na hii message inaendea co-principals wa Azimio (This thing has really hurt me and this message goes to Azimio co-principals)," Gaucho said.

He spoke soon after he was released on Sh5,000 cash bail by the Kiambu Law Courts on Tuesday following his arrest on Monday outside City Hall.

Gaucho claimed that despite being at the forefront of advancing Azimio ideologies including participating in mass protests, he has been treated like one of little or no value.

He said when former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was arrested Thursday last week and arraigned in a Nakuru court on Monday, several Azimio co-principals were present in solidarity.

"Lakini mimi nikishikwa inakaa ni kama mbwa flani amepelekwa station (But when I'm arrested, it appears like it's some dog that has been taken to the station)" Gaucho said.

To this, Kanchory said, "For those who have been asking why some of us have taken a back seat, here is your answer."

Njenga was charged with being in possession of firearms ammunition, government stores and psychotropic substances.

He was also charged with encouraging support for activities of the outlawed Mungiki sect by addressing a gathering on May 11, at Wanyororo in Nakuru.

The ex-Mungiki leader was represented in court by Narc Kenya leader and Azimio co-principal Martha Karua, George Wajackoyah, Simon Mbugua, Orlale Cheche and Ndegwa Njiru.

Former cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Jeremiah Kioni and former Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria were also in court in solidarity with Njenga.

Gaucho wondered why such an occurrence is never witnessed whenever he becomes a visitor of the state.

"Inakuanga aje, kwani kuna jina flani mimi pia nijiite Njoroge ndio watu wakuje? Ama nijiite Mwendwa. Hii kitu inaniuma (How is that or should I also call myself Njoroge or Mwendwa for people to come. I'm very hurt)," Gaucho said.
