Gachagua: My first name is borrowed from Maasai

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says his first name translates to 'Ole Kasi' in Maasai.

He said his mother comes from Kajiado County.

"Hi jina yangu Rigathi inaitwa Ole Kazi. Mimi ni Ole Kazi. Ikakorowa na wakikuyu ikawa Rigathi. Io Rigathi ikakorogwa na vijana ikawa Riggy G," he said. 

(My name Rigathi is Ole Kazi. I am Ole Kazi. It was changed to Rigathi by the Kikuyu and to Riggy by the youth).

The DP spoke on Sunday during a service at Ildamat Stadium in Kajiado Central.

Gachagua has embraced the nickname 'Riggy G' which was given to him by Ivy Chelimo in a social media post.

He said the nickname made it easier for people who would experience difficulties pronouncing his name.

"Riggy G is melodious," he said at a primary schools music festival being held in the western county of Kisumu.

He is the eighth-born child of Nderi Gachagua Wangombe and Martha Kirigo.
