President William Ruto has said that he will not use the bodaboda sector for politics as his predecessor did.

Speaking on Monday, the president said he understands that it is a business and the operators should separate politics from it.

Ruto insisted that he understands politics very well and he will take care of himself when it comes to that.

For the sector operators, Ruto said he would not want to mix their work with politics.

"Nataka niwaaambie mambo ya Bodaboda sitaki siasa ndani yake. Bodaboda ni biashara. Kama wewe ni mtu wa chama hii ama ile, peleka mambo ya chama mahali pengine, hapa nataka tukubaliane na nyinyi tutapanga biashara. Wale wengine walinitangulia walikuwa wanatumia bodaboda kupanga siasa. Hio biashara mimi sitaki. Nitajipanga na siasa kando na bodaboda. Najua kujipanga na sitaki tulete siasa ndani," the president said.

(I want to tell you that I do not want bodaboda business mixed with politics. If you belong to this or that political party, take that elsewhere. I want us to agree that here we will only plan business. Those who came before me used bodaboda to plan politics. That I don't want. I will organise my politics away from bodaboda. I know how to plan myself.)

Ruto spoke during the launch of Bodaboda Care at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC).

The president added that his job is not to get help to play politics from the sector but to ensure Kenyans get a conducive environment to do business and educate their children.

He said the riders are free to vote however they want but when they meet to focus should be on business.
