Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruyiot has urged the government to make it painful and expensive for reckless drivers who cause accidents.

The senator noted that in order to curb road accidents, people who commit traffic offenses should face the law.

The Senator was speaking on Tuesday, during the interdenominational memorial service and fundraising for the victims of the Londiani accident in Kericho town which was graced by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

"Over and above, countries which have succeeded to reduce road accidents, are those that punish people who commit traffic offenses," Cheruyiot said.

"The problem with this country is that people get away easily with killing people on the roads and causing accidents. People lose their lives, families suffer and people go unpunished."

On Friday, June 30, 2023, at around 6:30 pm an accident occurred at Londiani Junction and claimed 52 lives —31 males, 18 females and 2 children.

As a result, the UDA Senator urged President William Ruto-led government to consider making it more painful for reckless drivers.

He said that in the modern day, the government should make good use of technology.

"We should not use police alone. This is a modern world, make use of technology by putting cameras on these major highways when people over speed let them be fined," Cheruyiot added.
