Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has remained positive ahead of their planned protests on Wednesday despite a police ban.

In response to the statement by police Inspector General Japhet Koome announcing the ban, Azimio appeared to taunt the police saying the protests will go on as planned.

"Game, set and match for #MaandamanoWednesday. Vroooom!!!" the party tweeted on Tuesday.

In his statement, Koome said no protests will be allowed on Wednesday in the interest of averting the loss of lives.

He further said the opposition outfit led by Raila Odinga did not notify the police about the demonstrations.

"In this regard, no such demonstrations/gatherings, or protests will be allowed tomorrow (Wednesday) since no such notification has been presented to any police station. All lawful means will be used to disperse such demonstrations," Koome said.

However, National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi said last Friday after the Saba Saba demos that they had notified the police about Wednesday's follow-up protests.

"We have simply notified you (police), that come next Wednesday the whole country will come to a standstill as Kenyans of all walks of life participate in massive demonstrations in every width and breadth of the country," he said.

He said the notification is not a plea for permission to exercise their Constitutional right to protest and assemble but rather to seek police security.

"We are not giving a notice as a way of seeking permission from anybody, least of all the police," he said.

Raila said on Tuesday the demos will be held countrywide under the leadership of Azimio co-principals to mount pressure on the Kenya Kwanza regime to lower the cost of living, withdraw the Finance Act and stop interfering with the sovereignty of opposition political parties and MPs.

"What we started last week was only the first wave. Tomorrow, we must return with an even greater force and in greater numbers. And we must keep doing this until Ruto listens to and respects Kenyan," he said.

"Once again, we appeal to Kenyans to come out in even bigger numbers and make their voices heard. With time, Ruto will respect Kenyans."
