At least 17 people were killed this week during nationwide protests that took place on July 12, 2023.
Most of the bodies that were discovered in Nairobi had gunshot wounds.
Among the victims found dead was the Nairobi open bantamweight champion Raphael Shigali, who was shot in the head.
One person in Mukuru slums died after he was hit in the chest with a teargas canister.
The deceased had physical injuries on the chest and a deep cut on the neck.
In Majengo slums, a man died after being stabbed by unknown people during the riot in the area.
Another body of a man was discovered in City Stadium with chest injuries.
Officials said four more people were shot dead in Mlolongo, two in Kitengela, one along Juja Road in Nairobi, two in Kisumu, two in Sondu, one in Migori and one in Emali in Makueni.
Human rights commission (KNCHR) had said at least 12 people lost their lives during the demonstrations.
Human rights groups including KHRC, Haki Africa and MUHURI have accused police officers of using excessive force during the demos that left scores of protesters injured.
Mavoko MP arrest
Mavoko MP Patrick Makau was arrested on July 13 over anti-government protests on Mombasa Road, Nairobi.
Detectives from DCI took him to the directorate's offices for investigations into involvement in demonstrations called by opposition party, Azimio La Umoja.
He was, however, released hours after he denied his involvement in the protests that saw a section of the Expressway damaged at the Mlolongo toll station.
It is not clear if and when he will be arraigned and with what charges, if any.
Questions are being raised as to how police were overwhelmed, especially on the Expressway in Nairobi, amid claims the attackers on the property were facilitated.
Six killed in mob lynching
At least six cases of mob justice were reported in separate parts of the country.
In Nyeri, two men were lynched by a mob in Nyaribo area in a botched robbery.
The locals said the two were among a group of criminal gangs that had been terrorizing members of the public.
They were chased and stoned to death after breaking and stealing in Nyaribo.
In Kisumu West, a man was lynched after he assaulted and injured another in a fight.
In Itumbi village, Mukurweini, a 33-year-old man was beaten by a mob but was later saved by police after he was accused of assaulting his wife.
In Waruku, Dagorreti, a man aged 24 was lynched by a mob after he was accused of stealing from a house.
In Matete, Kakamega, an unknown man was found dead along Webuye-Eldoret road after being stoned by a mob.
The body was moved to Webuye County Hospital morgue pending autopsy and identification.
Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid calls to address the trend. Police record up to two cases daily.
Al Shabaab kill two cops and a teacher
Two police officers and a teacher were killed by al Shabaab terrorists in Mandera County.
The terrorists stormed the Mandera Police Station, attacked and destroyed communication masts in the town, affecting communication.
According to police, the gang stole a police Landcruiser and an unknown amount of ammunition from the station.
A military response team tried to intervene but was attacked with bombs at their camp in El Wak.
Police said the teacher who was killed was a non-local.
In Garissa, at least three police officers were killed when their vehicle ran over an IED.
Police officers said eight other officers from the Special Operations Group were injured in the attack.
The bomb had been placed on the roadside in Kiwanja and the police vehicles were on the move.
Guard killed while on duty
A night guard was killed at his work place in Kamulu, Nairobi.
Police said the guard was on duty at the premises when he was attacked.
The 22-year-old was found with five deep cuts on the head, having been killed during the night.
The motive of the incident is yet to be established.
Two foreigners arrested
Two Tanzanians were arrested in Garissa while on their way to join the al Shabaab terror group in Somalia.
The two were in possession of a notebook scribbled in Swahili which they were using to guide their movement from Tanzania to Jilib.
Police said the suspects revealed they were recruited and facilitated by their handlers in Tanzania.
Security agencies have increased their surveillance and investigations that of late have seen swift arrests of youth travelling to join terror groups and cells in Somalia.
Woman burnt to death
A 38-year-old woman died in a fire incident in Karura Kanyungu area, Kiambu County.
Her body was discovered having been burnt beyond recognition inside the house long after the fire had been contained.
Detectives said the fire affected the three-bedroom house.
They added that nothing was salvaged from the house and the cause of the incident is yet to be established.
The remains of the woman were moved to the mortuary pending further probe and autopsy.
