The Siyad Mathematics Contest in Wajir, which brought together 26 schools from the county, has concluded at the Wajir Girls Secondary School.
The contest is aimed at building academic standards in the region, especially in Mathematics.
It was sponsored by the Siyad Foundation, a brainchild of philanthropist and businessman Siyad Hassan, also known as Haji Siyad.
"Inter-school education contests are important because they encourage healthy competition, promote teamwork, and help students to develop new skills. These contest also help students to build confidence, improve their public speaking skills, and learn to work under pressure. They can also be a fun way to learn and make new friends," Siyad said.
Principal of Wajir Girls Secondary School, Madam Rahma, thanked Siyad Foundation for supporting the school and sponsoring such educational and informative functions.
"Siyad Foundation helped us during the drama festivals and they have also sponsored today's mathematical contest and we thank the founder Siyad for such noble work," she said.
Ahmed Liban Secondary School topped the regional mathematics contest, which brought together 26 schools from the county. Waberi Mixed Day Secondary came position two with 60 per cent, and Wajir High School came third.
Mathematics is regarded as hard in the region but such contests will aid learners get confidence, Siyad said.
The foundation coordinator AdanNur Mohamed said they will continue supporting education in Wajir.
“As Siyad Foundation we will continue playing a role in supporting education and co-curriculum activities, and we will always be there to support,” he said.
The foundation brought trophies, sponsored the branding of the event and also motivated the students to work harder.
Siyad Hassan is also the founder of Siyad Soccer Tournament, which recently attracted several sports fans in Kenya.
Apart from developing talent, the tournament also aids in curbing violent extremism by acting as a shield for youth who could potentially join extremist groups.
