Major towns across Kenya remained deserted during morning hours ahead of the Azimio-led protests.

Police officers have already been deployed in key areas around towns.

A round-up by the Star on Wednesday morning revealed that major business premises remained closed as traders chose to stay away and protect their premises.

Normalcy was witnessed in Mombasa despite the mounting tension ahead of the planned three-day Azimio demonstrations that begin today.

A few shops remained closed with few cars being seen on the road.

PSVs and residents conducted business as usual from Moi International Airport to Changamwe roundabout, Makupa Causeway, Saba Saba area, Mwembe Tayari and Digo Road.

The situation was no different in Nairobi as the city centre was deserted with very few vehicles and commuters on the roads.

However, protestors in Kibra had lit tyres as they charged up for the demonstrations.

In Kisii, residents stayed away from town. Anti–riot police converged at Mwembe area on Kilgoris road.

Anti-riot police restored peace in Nyamira after protestors lit a bonfire on the Metamaywa-Mosobeti Kebirigo road before 10 am.

In Migori town, many shops remained closed.

Nakuru was relatively calm as compared to last week with few protestors on the roads.

In Kisumu, youths had lit bonfires and barricaded various roads.

Shops were also closed and no public vehicles were seen on the roads.

On Tuesday, Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua had asked Kenyans to come out of their homes and bang sufurias, pots and pans to signify lack of food at midday.

"The Sufuria Movement kicks off tomorrow and continues until the battle is won," she said.
