Drama erupted at Milimani Law Courts on Thursday when police officers ejected Embakasi East Babu Owino's supporters.

In a video seen by The Star, the supporters were escorted outside the court premises as they chanted Babu's name.

"Babu, Babu, Babu," the supporters were heard saying.

He was taken to court after being detained for over 24 hours. He was arrested at JKIA on Tuesday evening.

The MP is still awaiting to be charged.

It was established that soon after arrival, Babu was taken into the court's cells where he is being held.

It is however not known what they intend to charge him with.

Earlier, one of Babu Owino's lawyers Ndegwa Njiru said that they had been denied access to the MP.

Ndegwa who spoke outside the Nairobi area police station said that they had also been denied access to the police station.

He noted the police have also not told Babu why they have arrested him, despite being in police custody for over 24 hours.

"I can confirm that my client Babu Owino is held at the police area in Nairobi. The police have refused to allow us access to the police station. They have blocked us even as lawyers," Ndegwa said.

"We have a right to see our client. He has a right to be represented even in that particular police station. They have completely refused and have not told him why he's being arrested."

According to his other lawyer Duncan Okatch, who spoke to Citizen Digital, the lawmaker faces charges of unlawful assembly and subversion, in regards to his role in the ongoing opposition-led anti-government protests.
