He noted the police have also not told Babu why they have him arrested, despite being in police custody for over 24 hours.

"I can confirm that my client Babu Owino is held at the police area in Nairobi. The police have refused to allow us access to the police station. They have blocked us even as lawyers," Ndegwa said.

"We have no right to see our client. He has no right to be represented even in that particular police station. They have completely refused and have not told him why he's being arrested."

According to his other lawyer Duncan Okatch, who spoke to Citizen Digital, the lawmaker faces charges of unlawful assembly and subversion, in regards to his role in the ongoing opposition-led anti-government protests.
