Nairobi Members of County Assembly allied to Azimio have condemned what they termed as the ethnic profiling taking place in the capital city and Nyanza.
The MCAs in a statement on Friday said the current crackdown across the county and the entire nation poses a serious threat to the very fabric of the Kenyan nation.
Majority Whip Moses Ogeto expressed concern that the crackdown has been concentrated in slums and other low-income areas of the county where the so-called hustlers, in whose name and interests the Kenya Kwanza regime claims to govern live.
He said a similar trend has been witnessed in some parts of Central Kenya and Nairobi where young men and women are being labelled Mungiki.
He further noted that Ward Reps from Nairobi aligned to Azimio have been the biggest victims of arbitrary arrests by the police, who are roaming the streets posing as journalists, newspaper vendors, photographers or hawkers.
Those who have so far been affected include Mabatini MCA Wilfred Odalo, Redson Onyango (Ngei), Peter Imwatok (Makongeni), Peter Owera (Huruma) and Alvin Palapala (Kitusuru).
“The brutality being meted out in places like Kibra, Kawangware, Kangemi, Huruma, Mathare, Dandora in Nairobi and Kondele and Nyalenda in Kisumu is therefore a cruel betrayal of hustlers,” Ogeto said.
“Innocent women and children are being hunted in these low-income areas. Their only crime is that they have asked the police to take their wars away from the slums,” he added.
Ogeto called for an end to what he termed as a move by the government to force Kenyans to cow in fear and surrender saying as the premier City MCAs they are ready to lead the resistance.
They have further appealed to Kenyans to exercise love, care, and compassion for one another as the guiding principles at this moment.
