Anglican Bishops have called on President William Ruto to focus on resolving concerns raised by Kenyans and leave the Kenyatta family alone.

Led by Bishop David Kodia, the clergy asked the President to give the former first family the respect it deserves and urged Ruto to exercise tolerance and reach out to his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta for a truce.

"We want the President to give the Kenyatta family the latitude they deserve as the former first family in this country. A phone call to the former President will save this nation from such an embarrassment that we have witnessed for the last few days,” Kodia said.

The men of God spoke to the press at the Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu where they had gone to visit patients.

Several people are nursing injuries in several hospitals in the lakeside city following a clash with police officers during three days of protests called by the Azimio la Umoja coalition last week.

On Friday night, police raided Uhuru's son's residence in Karen, Nairobi purportedly to confiscate illegal guns.

Uhuru visited the home and denied allegations that his family is in possession of illegal guns and dismissed claims he was funding the anti-government protests.

The Bishops cautioned against the government's apparent use of vendetta and suspicion to run the country.

"If you want to run this country based on suspicion, fear, and vendetta then no one will remain in this country. Fuelling tension through reckless utterances cannot save this nation from its economic woes," Kodia said.

He said as things stand, what the country critically needs now is a national conversation for a peaceful transition.
