Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said he will look for Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua to dissuade her from continued involvement with "embarrassing" street protests.

The DP said Karua's association with the demonstrations called by the Azimio coalition was causing embarrassment to Mt Kenya people, particularly those from her Gichugu backyard.

"I don't know what's with that sister of ours," Gachagua said while addressing crowds during the launch of an affordable housing project in Gichugu.

"I want to look for her, I know she is my friend and we know each other. I will talk to her. This thing of putting sufurias on the head is embarrassing us."

The DP used the moment to take a swipe at the Azimio brigade for criticising President William Ruto over his five-day working tour of the Mt Kenya region.

"Where do they want him to go? Gachagua asked.

"They are saying that the President has started campaigns. Does bringing a project like this amount to the campaign?" he posed.

A section of Azimio leaders from Mt Kenya region on Tuesday termed  Ruto's development tour of the region a 'publicity stunt'.

They claimed the projects the President was commissioning were started years ago "and so the visit was of no value".

The leaders who included Karua, Peter Munya and Jeremiah Kioni addressed the press saying Ruto was touring the region to try and redeem his image.

"They are launching projects started and completed two years ago...some even by the counties," former Laikipia Governor Nderitu Mureithi said in a joint statement.

He added that the Kenya Kwanza regime was yet to complete any new project on its own.

Gachagua said there was no problem for Ruto to visit voters who elected him as they are basically his employer.

"There is no problem in an employee visiting his employer. So I want to tell the likes of Kioni who are making noise about the President's visit to the mountain that the President will visit the mountain, every month he will be here because we are the ones who elected him."
