Chaos erupted at a bursary disbursement event by Governor Kimani Wamatangi in Kiambaa constituency on Wednesday afternoon
This is after Governor Wamatangi excluded all five ward representatives from the Kiambaa constituency from his meeting.
The MCAs among them Karanja Kamau (Muchatha), Joseph Koigi (Cianda), David Mwaura (Ndenderu), Macharia Wambui (Limuru east) and Peter Wainaina (Karuri) were locked out of the meeting.
Speaking outside the ACK Muchatha Church Hall, Muchatha MCA Karanja Kamau (KK) noted that the issue started when the governor ordered them to be locked out of the hall where bursaries were being offered.
He noted that Wamatangi was overstepping on his mandate and he should allow MCAs to deliver on their jobs.
He criticized Governor Wamatangi and urged him to collaborate with elected leaders in delivering services to Kiambu residents.
"The bursaries were being issued in my constituencies and I was supposed to be there but unfortunately I was locked out," he said.
He noted that Wamatangi should not intimidate elected leaders and should allow them to deliver their services.
MCAPeter Wainaina (Karuri) noted that the division currently witnessed in Kiambu isn't healthy.
He called on Governor Wamatangi to unite with the ward representatives to strengthen Kiambu County.
"No one has a personal issue with Wamatangi but he should let us serve our people," he said.
Cianda Mca Joseph Koigi said that the people of Kiambu are ready for development instead of constant fights between legislatures and executives.
The differences between Wamatangi heightened on Monday.
More than 37 MCAs declared their readiness to impeach Wamatangi over his leadership style.
The governor has faced allegations of micromanaging the county and operating without a substantive county secretary and chief officers
Kiambu senator Karungu Thangwa recently told the Star that the claims labelled against Wamatangi are dangerous as they qualify for impeachment.
He urged Wamatangi to work with all leaders across Kiambu.
“If he doesn’t change it is not going to be easy because we started the meeting mediation dialogue with the MPs of Kiambu and the governor, and it did not work,” Karungo said.
However, Governor Wamatangi noted that the MCAs have been pushing him to give them bribes and other political favours which are not realistic.
