A section of Gatundu North Elders have pleaded with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to intervene and help them resolve a case involving a disputed parcel of land in Kamwangi Town.
Speaking during a meeting in Kamwangi Town, the elders who are members of New Kamwangi Gumba Company Limited said they will not relent as they plan to institute all legal means to reclaim their land.
The land has been in contestation for the last 30 years.
They said there was a case that had been filed in a Milimani court pitting them against the Kiambu Coffee Growers Corporative Union over the said land but the matter was not ruled in their favour.
"The Lawyer who was handling our case deceived us. We were surprised to learn that the matter had already been determined and a judgement issued that was not in our favour four months later," said one of the elders.
The land initially housed the Kamwangi Police Station.
Through their advocate Danstan Omari, the elders said the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta had resolved the issue but after his demise, "people pretending to be owners of the land forcefully took over from what was legally theirs".
