Four people died and seven others were seriously injured on Friday night in a road accident along the Nairobi - Namanga highway.
The accident occurred near UMMA University in Kajiado at around 8:00 PM when the driver of the 14-seater matatu lost control of the vehicle following a tyre burst.
According to eyewitnesses, the matatu which was heading to Kitengela town from Bissil veered off the road when one of its back tyres burst.
Two people died on the spot while two more succumbed to their injuries at the Kajiado County Referral Hospital where they had been rushed to for treatment.
Seven other people who sustained serious injuries were admitted to the referral hospital.
According to the hospital's Medical Superintendent Fred Ayani, two patients were transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to the mortuary at the same hospital awaiting a postmortem examination.
The accident happened less than 24 hours after another one in the Salama area of Makueni on Thursday night claimed nine lives and several other people injured.
On the day the Salama accident happened, 12 people perished in a Voi road accident and the number of the dead increased on Friday after two injured persons in the same accident succumbed to injuries at Moi Referral County Hospital.
