Kenyan freedom fighter, Field Marshal Muthoni Kirima will be buried on September 22, 2023.

In a briefing on Tuesday, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said the decision was arrived by the President, deputy president, and the family.

“In consultation with President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and the family, we have agreed that Muthoni Kirima will be buried on the 22nd of this month,” Kahiga said.

He said the decision was made since both Ruto and Gachagua will be out of the country this week and the family wanted them to attend the burial.

“One of the reasons why we have taken that long is that the family and also the Deputy President expressed the need and the will to be attending that funeral,” Kahiga said.

“The two of them will not be in the country and the family felt that they wanted their presence and that is why we have decided that the funeral shall be held on the 22nd of September.”

He added that the requiem mass and the funeral service will be held at Kinunga Sports Stadium.

Thereafter, she will be laid at Ihwa village in Tetu, Nyeri County, which is her ancestral home.

According to Kahiga, Kirima had already shown them where she would be buried and they will honor her request.

“She had already shown us where she wanted to be buried and she will be buried there,” he said.

He said the funeral is a collaboration between the national government, county government, and the family.
