Machakos is Nairobi’s investment ‘bedroom’ – Governor Ndeti

Says numerous business opportunities have attracted local and foreign investors.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti has said she is excited that Machakos County is a strategic investment hub suitable for housing, manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, ICT and education.

The county boss said the array of investment opportunities the county boosts makes it an investment 'bedroom' for the capital, Nairobi City.

"My government has continued to create ample atmosphere for investors," Ndeti said.

She spoke when she presided over the official opening of Coloho Shopping Mall in Athi River, Machakos County on Saturday.

The event was also the launch of China Trade Week Kenya.

The governor said it was impressive to see many investors, both local and international, seeking to relocate their businesses to Machakos County.

She said her administration had a deliberate strategy to attract and retain the investors in the county.

"Your decision to invest in Machakos County is a clear testament that there are numerous business opportunities in the county. This is a clear example of the saying that ‘action speaks louder than words’,” Ndeti said.

The governor said economies in African countries are opening and growing fast due to globalisation.

"Many employment opportunities are emerging daily where enterprises sprout. Being an economic giant in East Africa, Kenya and more importantly Machakos County, appreciate the need to attract investors," she said.

County governments embracing investors and supporting infrastructure is in line with the national government’s agenda of accelerating development, Ndeti said.

She revealed that her goal is to anchor three pillar development plan that seeks to ensure food security, infrastructural and socio-economic development for the people of Machakos County.

Ndeti said her administration was committed to partnering with the national government and the private sector in creating additional employment opportunities for Kenyans.

She said her administration was progressively designing and implementing policies that attract and boost investors’ confidence.

"I want to assure all investors both existing and potential ones that my government will do everything within its ability to ensure smooth operations.

"I wish to encourage investors as well as entrepreneurs to take note on global trends that dictate successful business ventures in the modern world,” Ndeti added.

She said busi9ness managers of today should aspire to empower the workforce and increase productivity for organizations to succeed.

Zhang Yijun, Minister Counsellor of the Chines Embassy in Kenya, said there was profound relationships between the two countries.

"We have seen a lot of projects in Kenya invested by Chinese enterprises. We thank Kenyan authorities for supporting Chinese enterprises," Yijun said.

"On the occasion of our market tie, China and Kenya would like to create synergy for our development and develop our people too," he added.

Yijun said it was good for players from the two countries to cooperate and exchange with each other to develop further.
