The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has picked journalist Ian Wafula to be the Africa security correspondent.
In a statement on Monday, Wafula said he looks forward to covering and learning from the African continent's complex security issues.
"I am back at the BBC as Africa Security Correspondent based in Nairobi. Looking forward to covering and learning from the continent's complex security nuances.
"Special thanks to my friends and family for being my constant cheerleaders as well as my Editors for believing in me," he said.
Wafula has previously worked with the British Broadcaster both as a senior presenter at BBC Africa and as a freelancer.
He first joined the BBC in August 2018 as a senior presenter. He worked with the broadcaster for four years before he called it quits.
He later went to the United Kingdom to study for his Master's degree in International Journalism at Cardiff University.
Before joining the BBC, Wafula worked at K24 TV, where he was the host of K24 Alfajiri, a breakfast current affairs show that analysed some of the top stories in Kenya.
He had also worked for the Standard Group as a reporter with KTN investigative desk. Here he covered some of Kenya’s security stories.
His appointment comes barely six months after Waihiga Mwaura joined BBC as their lead presenter for BBC Focus on Africa.
A BBC spokesperson in a statement said: “We are very pleased to welcome Waihiga Mwaura as the new presenter for Focus on Africa TV. His talent, engaging story-telling, and on-screen presence make him a great choice for the BBC award-winning show.
"A former Komla Dumor award winner and well-respected journalist, Waihiga’s career over the years showcases his dedication to reporting on important news stories for audiences across Africa."
