UDA Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala arrives for the United Democratic Alliance Party NDC on September 29, 2023

United Democratic Alliance secretary general Cleophas Malala has dismissed claims that there are divisions in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Speaking on Tuesday after presenting submissions to the National Dialogue Committee, Malala said they are united and intact as before.

"You have been having a misconception of a divided Kenya Kwanza, you have seen today we have made a presentation of a unified front. We have the SG of Ford Kenya, Amani National Congress (ANC) and I'm here to represent the UDA party," he said.

Malala affirmed that Kenya Kwanza and all its affiliates discuss and agree on matters in one voice.

He warned those peddling rumours about disunity in the Kenya Kwanza alliance to stop.

"I want to assure all our supporters that Kenya Kwanza is as intact as before and therefore we do not want to entertain any rumour mongering that we are divided as a coalition. We respect each other and agree on every issue presented in public," he said.

The clarification comes hot on the heels of claims the Kenya Kwanza Alliance is battling internal cracks sparked by what political analysts say are competing political interests, fights for relevance, and political positioning ahead of the 2027 polls.

This is coupled with Malala's aggressive campaign to have Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi's ANC Party and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula's Ford Kenya fold and join UDA.

Malala said this would give them a vantage point as they position themselves for the presidency in the 2032 presidential race.

The UDA secretary general is on record saying ANC and Ford Kenya “are village parties” that cannot produce a president.

President William Ruto last week set the record straight saying the Kenya Kwanza Alliance will not be forced to fold.

Ruto said the decision for affiliate parties to merge with UDA under the ruling coalition will be by consensus not by force.

"I've heard some of us saying our colleagues must do this or that, no. You just say it would be better if you joined us," he said.

"We can talk and agree so that they can come and help us be a strong party in Kenya."

ANC and Ford-Kenya have maintained that they will not dissolve and join the UDA party.
