President William Ruto addresses the crowd in Siaya County on the first day of his four-day tour of Nyanza region on Friday, October 6, 2023.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has expressed excitement after President William Ruto was warmly received in the Nyanza region.

The President on Friday arrived in the Nyanza for a four-day development tour of Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya and Migori counties.

The Nyanza region is perceived to be the opposition chief Raila Odinga's Luo Nyanza stronghold.

However, Ruto won the hearts of many residents as multitudes showed up to welcome him.

While reacting to the warm reception the President got, Cherargei said Ruto's visit depicts that politics is not based on regions but Kenya as a whole.

"H.E Ruto received heroic reception today at Luo Nyanza of a development messiah," he said.

"Kumbe kelele za Azimio-OKA ni za Twitter pekee kumbe ground vitu ni different. Asante Luo Nyanza for the warm welcome tuko mpaka Monday."

This is the second major and extensive development tour of the four Luo Nyanza counties since Ruto was elected last year.

The first high-level tour was in January when he traversed Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya counties commissioning development projects.

The President on Friday began his working tour in Sondu, Nyanza despite the tension in the area due to clashes that have left seven people dead.

He visited Nyando for the groundbreaking of the Kabonyo Fisheries and Aquaculture Service and Training Centre in Nyando, Kisumu County.

Ruto said his administration has set aside up to Sh900 million for fish landing sites in the Nyanza region.

The Head of State said the nine landing sites in the region should start functioning within the next year.

"In the landing sites, we will ensure we have cold storage and processing, including marketing process to ensure we derive marketing from our fishing to derive revenue from fishing," he said.
