Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has maintained that both Mt Kenya and Rift Valley are united contrary to claims of divisions among leaders.
He said leaders from the two regions were united and solidly behind President William Ruto.
“There are no divisions in this government, the President and I talk the same language, we consult and agree,” Gachagua said.
“The government is one, it is steady and stable one under one leader, President Ruto, who has so far led us well and ours is to support him.”
Speaking during a church service in Nandi, the DP said some individuals who wanted to stop President Ruto from ascending to power are out trying to cause a rift where there is none.
The particular individuals whom he said lost in the last election are still in denial and are looking for faults in the administration.
Gachagua said he is out to consolidate the two regions by uniting the leaders including those that were in the Azimio camp so they can win by a landslide in 2027.
He said they are targeting up to a million votes from the two regions that were lost to Azimio in 2022.
“The way to deal with 2027 and beyond is to ensure that the win is so decisive that it will be difficult for anyone to go on a demonstration. What I am doing now and I will continue to do is to unite the backyard of President in Rift Valley and Mt Kenya region,” the DP said.
While defending his move to reach out to the leaders in the opposition despite criticism, Gachagua said it is "a call from the people".
He said it would be difficult to unite the country when “we are not united as a region and that is why we are saying let us unite”.
“The unity of the Rift Valley will continue the leadership of Ruto and the unity of Mt Kenya will continue under my leadership,” he remarked.
He said he did not have a problem with opposition supporters throwing their weight behind the President, saying he serves all Kenyans.
"They are welcome because the President serves the whole country but there must also be someone to defend those who have supported him all along. That's my job," the DP stated.
He said the government intends to sack about 100 chiefs by December 25 this year over claims of laxity in the fight against illicit brews.
The list of those to be dismissed, he said, has been agreed upon by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.
“It will be very painful for me but I love the people. We have a list already. I want to sack them before Christmas so that they can be an example to others,” he said.
His statement came after Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei claimed that cases of illicit brews in the region were still high.
He directed the county commissioner to convene a meeting with the chiefs, their assistants and village elders to agree on how to end illicit brews by December 12.
The DP, who has been the leading the war on alcohol and drug abuse in the country, reaffirmed that the battle is on and that it has been won so far with the focus being to ensure 100 per cent success.
“The war against toxic alcohol and substance abuse is still very much on track and we have won 70 per cent. It is on course and we will do more until we win it to save our youth from destruction,” Gachagua said.
