Meru County Assembly members Tuesday tabled a second impeachment motion against Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
In a motion tabled at the County Assembly, the county legislators accuse Mwangaza of committing seven violations as grounds for her impeachment.
In the first count, the MCAs accuse Mwangaza of misappropriation and misuse of county resources.
They claim the governor has been among others, embezzling county funds using her relatives including sisters, brother and a nephew.
They accuse the Meru governor of making withdrawals of county funds under the guise of payment for various supplies that are made by her relatives.
The MCAs also claimed Mwangaza diverted county resources for personal use.
“Diversion and misuse of county resources including funds and vehicles to run the governor's charity deemed Okolea despite promising the senate to refrain from conflicting official county officials and Okolea operations,” the Assembly Majority leader Evans Mawira said.
Mwangaza is also accused of Nepotism and unrelated unethical practices, where she is said to have employed her relatives. She is also accused of taking her relatives on overseas trips in the guise that they are experts.
She is also accused of bullying, vilification and demeaning other leaders in the county, illegal appointments, and usurpation of statutory powers.
Mwangaza is also accused of contempt of court, illegally naming a public road after her husband without following statutory procedures and contempt of the Assembly.
If successful, this will be the second impeachment in less than a year.
On Friday last week, Mwangaza sought the help of the Senate in resolving the dispute with MCAs and other leaders.
In a letter seen by the Star, Mwangaza asked Speaker Amason Kingi to direct that the Standing Committee on Devolution take charge of their peace talks.
"In the spirit of reconciliation and well aware that the Senate Standing Committee in charge of devolution is in a position to mediate over these perceived differences between myself, the Deputy Governor and the County Assembly; I write to you to invite the said Committee to intervene," the letter reads.
In the letter, Mwangaza alleged that all elected leaders in the county are against her, including her Deputy governor Mutuma M'ithinkia.
She claimed that all MCAs who have shown any support for her continue to be harassed by the Meru County Assembly leadership.
"All members of the County Assembly who have directly expressed their support for my government are being harassed either by the Minority Whip of the Assembly or the Majority Whip.
"This has reached the extent that some of the members have been removed from the sectoral committees of the house," Mwangaza claimed.
