Public Service CS Moses Kuria has lauded the role played by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in ensuring that Huduma centres become a reality.

Speaking when he presided over the tenth anniversary of Huduma Kenya celebrations in Nakuru, Kuria noted that the success of Huduma Kenya had taken long to reach where it is today.

The Huduma Kenya programme was created to facilitate the provision of a wide array of government services in a single unit dubbed Huduma Centres.

The first Huduma Centre Nairobi was launched in 2013 by Uhuru alongside then Deputy William Ruto at the Teleposta Building in Nairobi.

“The Huduma Kenya journey has been a long one and I take this opportunity to appreciate former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Governor Anne Waiguru and all the other stakeholders who helped us realise this dream 10 years ago,” Kuria said.

Kuria said Huduma centres have continued to play a critical role in transforming public service delivery 10 years since they were introduced.

The CS further disclosed that the government plans to expand Huduma Kenya to the grassroots going forward to ensure government services are taken to the people.

“In partnership with our MPs and with the support of NG-CDF we want to ensure that every constituency has a Huduma Centre,” he said.

“I am very proud of the professional services that our officers provide at Huduma Centres and I want to urge all public servants to emulate them. As I have said in many forums, we must move from public employment to public service,” he added.

Kuria was accompanied by PS State Department for Public Service Amos Gathecha, Nakuru County Deputy Governor David Kones and Huduma Kenya CEO Benjamin Chilumo.

Last month, Kuria received sharp criticism from the public after he said the government was planning to introduce a fee for services at Huduma centres.

Kuria said that the fee will go towards the facilitation of 52 Huduma centres across the country.

Explaining further, Kuria said through the fees, Huduma centres will be able to generate their revenues which will ease pressure on the exchequer.

He however denounced the statement and termed it as a misrepresentation of what he meant.

The Huduma Kenya programme was created to facilitate the provision of a wide array of government services in a single unit dubbed Huduma Centres.

Huduma Kenya merges numerous related public services within one location, possibly on the same floor so that Kenyans can easily access them.
