A man has died in an accident along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa highway, Makueni County.
The deceased according to police died on the spot after the vehicle he was driving got involved in multiple grisly road accidents at the Tsavo River area in Mtito Andei, Kibwezi subcounty on Wednesday.
Kibwezi subcounty police commander Joram Maina said two others sustained injuries following the accident incident.
“The deceased, a canter’s driver was trying to overtake before he lost control ramming into the rear part of a trailer that consequently hit another vehicle hence the multiple accident incident,” Maina said.
Maina said three vehicles were involved in the accident.
Police processed the scene and cleared it before the body was removed to Kambu Funeral Home.
The two victims were rushed to Makindu Hospital for medical attention while the wreckages were towed to Kibwezi police station awaiting inspection.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
The accident occurred barely a week after a woman of Congolese origin died after she was knocked down by a motor vehicle along the Nairobi–Mombasa highway.
Nyaganza Bukuru, 50, sustained head injuries before she succumbed while undergoing treatment at Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River, Machakos County on October 29.
Athi River South subcounty police commander Jos Mudavadi said the pedestrian was crossing the road in the Sabaki area, a few metres from the Signature Mall when the accident occurred.
The incident was reported to the Athi River police station as a fatal road traffic accident report.
“It occurred today October 29, 2023, at about 2.00 pm and reported to police at 2.30pm that along Mombasa road at Sabaki area, a motor vehicle of make Toyota Hiace that was being driven by one Abdiwahi Ali Omar knocked down a pedestrian namely Nyaganza Bukuru aged 50 years,” Mudavadi told the Star.
Mudavadi said it happened that the driver was driving towards Mombasa's general direction and on reaching the location of the accident, the said pedestrian crossed the road from left to right while facing Nairobi direction only to be knocked down.
“She sustained head injuries and was rushed to Shalom Community Hospital, Athi River branch where she died while undergoing treatment,” Mudavadi said.
He said traffic officers from the Athi River police station visited the scene and processed it.
