President William Ruto is set to deliver a speech on behalf of Africa at the Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
In a statement, the head of state will highlight the continent's priorities and build on the historic African Leaders Nairobi Declaration adopted at the inaugural Africa Climate Summit held in Nairobi in September 2023.
Ruto will deliver the statement in his capacity as the Chair of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC).
"President Ruto will emphasize transformative climate action urgently needed to correct the world's current trajectory," State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said in a statement.
The President will participate in the conference from November 30 to December 2, 2023, alongside 100 global leaders.
Further, during the conference, Ruto will aim at establishing Kenya and Africa as key hubs for green manufacturing, supporting the global decarbonization agenda, as he advocates for comprehensive financial reforms, emphasizing the need to align international financial institutions, including the World Bank and theInternational Monetary Fund, with Africa's developmental context and climate goals.
The President will also witness the signing of a Memorandum Of Understanding and investment deals for significant investments in Kenya’s green manufacturing, showcasing our potential as a green powerhouse in Africa.
"President Ruto aims to enhance collaboration, share best practices, and advance Africa and Kenya's priorities on the global climate agenda."
The 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will run from November 3 to December 12.
COP28 is taking place at a time when countries across the globe are experiencing deadly floods including Kenya, heatwaves among other challenges.

The conference comes weeks after a UN report said greenhouse gases in the atmosphere hit a record high in 2022
The 13-day conference is expected to dwell on carbon emission, fossil fuel, and climate financing at the top of the agenda.
On climate financing, to help countries mostly affected by the effect of climate change as most countries are behind the target, and have been pushing for more contributions from emitors.
There will also be a review of the Paris Agreement, which focuses on the reduction of carbon emissions.
The Paris Agreement was signed at the COP21.
