Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has been ranked as the most locally travelled CS.

A Tifa survey released on Wednesday shows that Kindiki has visited 41 counties since taking over the security docket.

He is followed by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musali Mudavadi who has visited 23 counties,  Education CS Ezekiel Machogu(20), Health CS Susan Nakuhumicha(2o)and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen(19).

According to Tifa, the figures reflect the extensive regional engagements undertaken by Cabinet members, showcasing their active involvement and visibility in different parts of the country.

The report indicates that despite Kindiki being the highest locally travelled CS, he has never gone out of the country.

Tifa lead researcher Tom Wolf said that Kindiki and Murkomen are leading in visiting the counties because they are mainly dealing with internal matters.

"I don't think he can understand security issues if he sits in the office," Wolf said on Kindiki.

The survey was conducted on 3,009 respondents between November 25 to December 7, 2023.

Telephonic Interviews were conducted with respondents whose contacts were collected through face-to-face.

The interviews were conducted in Kiswahili (mainly) and English. There was a +/- 1.79 % margin of error.

In February, President William Ruto said Kindiki had moved from his office in Nairobi to live in the North Rift region to lead the fight against banditry.

Ruto stated that he had ordered Kindiki out of the Harambee Avenue office to the insecurity-stricken region to restore security.

Since then, Kindiki has been making impromptu visits and going around counties to assess security matters.

The CS vowed that the government has, as a priority, the mandate to curb insecurity and put criminals behind bars.

"Security officers are instructed to use the firearms they hold to lawfully protect citizens and their property. Armed criminals daring security agencies will be dealt with ruthlessly,” he said.

"The government will defend security officers who lawfully use weapons assigned to them to protect the lives and property of our citizens."
