Beatrice Cherotich Bii has been appointed as a member of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) Council.

She joins other Council Members who were appointed in October this year by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

Bii, a career human resource specialist who also serves as vice chairperson of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), will represent the Association of Professional Society of East Africa (APSEA).

KNQA acting director general Alice Kande congratulated Bii saying her appointment comes at a crucial moment when the authority is working round the clock to ensure the quality of qualifications from learning institutions.

“This appointment is an opportunity for the Authority and timely as the framework is now in the process of being embraced, their leadership will be vital at a time when we need to do a lot of work in terms of ensuring the quality of qualifications,” Kande said.

She added that Bii's expertise will be critical towards the realisation of the government's Bottom-Up  Economic Transformative Agenda in the execution of the authority's mandate.

While inaugurating the new Council in November, CS Machogu lauded KNQA for the progress it has made to date in ensuring that Kenya has foolproof qualifications that are relevant, globally competitive and portable and allow for mobility of labour and skills across the globe.

The CS noted that the undertaking has taken a lot of combined sacrifices all geared towards ensuring the National Qualifications Framework is fully implemented.

The Council is chaired by  former Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis.

Members include Joseph Kanyi, representative of the Principal Secretary, Technical Vocation, Education and Training.

Others are Isaiah Ochelle, representative of the Principal Secretary, the National Treasury; Everlyn Owoko, representative of Basic Learning PS; Prof Mike Kuria, representative of the Commission for University Education (CUE); Dr Kipkurui Langa’t, representative of TVETA and KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu who represents the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU).

Others include the representative of the PS, Ministry of Labour, Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) CEO Jacqueline Mugo's representative and Inspector General of State Corporations' representative Michael Muturi.
