Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has directed the universities and college admissions agency to immediately align cluster and entry points with a new KCSE grading system.
The CS said on Monday that the government had approved the reduction of compulsory subjects in the grading system from five to two.
Machogu said the new system will allow more KCSE candidates who sat the 2023 tests to pursue courses of their choice at universities and colleges.
"I now direct the KUCPS to align the university and colleges entry grades to the new grading system," he said in his remarks when he released the 2023 KCSE results at Moi Girls Eldoret.
At the same time, the CS directed KUCCPS to mount an aggressive campaign to sensitive students about university and college courses available for KCSE candidates.
Last year, the Ministry of Education unveiled a new grading system that started to be implemented in the 2023 KCSE exam.
According to the new grading structure, only two mandatory subjects were required for computing the mean grade.
In the new grading system that will be applied to the 2023 KCSE exam, the only two mandatory subjects will be Mathematics and one language, (English, Kiswahili or Kenyan Sign Language).
In addition to the two mandatory subjects, Knec considered any other five best-performed subjects by the candidate.
The new reform measure is expected to increase the number of students qualifying for universities, diploma and TVET training at certificate and artisan levels.
