Former Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa has given his view on Western Kenya leadership post-2022 general elections.
In an interview on Saturday, Wamalwa rubbished claims that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula are in charge of the Western region
Wamalwa, who is is Azimio la Umoja Coalition said that he led better campaigns than the two leaders above.
"We must disabuse Kenyans of this charade that has been created that Musalia and Wetangula are in charge of Western Kenya, they are not . ANC and Ford-Kenya are minority parties in Western," he said on NTV.
Wamalwa said that together with former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, they led better campaigns in the five counties which include Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma and Trans Nzoia
"When you look at last elections results,Oparanya and I led the Azimio campaigns there and there was a blue wave in Western Kenya," he said.
Blue was the symbolic color of the Raila Odinga-led Azimio Coalition.
Going further, Wamalwa who is also the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) said that Western Kenya is not short of leaders who can run for presidency in 2027.
He explained that in a scenario where Mudavadi and Wetang'ula won't be part of the presidential race, Western Kenya will not be stuck and Azimio will be on the frontline.
"The two have said will support Ruto in 2032 because they claimed he cannot be beaten in 2027. If they are afraid of the political goliath, I can tell you from the house of Mulembe there will be a David called Wamalwa," Wamalwa added.
Last year in September,Prime CS Mudavadi assured Western Kenya and the country as a whole that there is no rift between him and Speaker Wetang’ula.
Whereas there have been no differences between the two leaders, speculation was rife in some quarters that their appointment to powerful positions in government would trigger a fierce battle for the control of the vote-rich Mulembe nation.
Mudavadi said they have chosen to move forward and work together.
The Prime CS urged the Western region to embrace Ruto's government since they have him and Wetang'ula in strategic positions.
He said him and the Speaker have the President's ears.
Mudavadi said their goal is to increase the number of votes Ruto got in the Western region which boosts of two million registered voters.
The CS said Ruto has a head-start advantage ahead of the 2027 polls and he is keeping his promises to those who put him in office.
Mudavadi added that they will work with Ruto towards the 2027 general election and maybe deliberate after that.
