A restful holiday in the country ended tragically for a Briton after she was killed in a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Thursday morning.

A male friend who had picked her up from the airport also died on the spot while their driver was seriously injured during the 4 am incident along the busy road.

The accident occurred when the car heading to Nakuru hit an oncoming lorry.

The two passengers died on the spot while the driver was admitted in Naivasha subcounty hospital in critical condition while the occupants of the lorry were unscathed.

Naivasha OCPD Stephen Kirui said the British woman had been picked up in Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi by a friend and the driver and they were on their way to Nakuru when the accident occurred.

He said initial investigations indicated the car driver swerved from his lane and rammed head-on into the lorry that was heading to Nairobi.

“In the process, the British national who was visiting the country and one male died on the spot while their driver was seriously injured and is admitted to the sub-county hospital,” Kirui said.

The two bodies were taken to the Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary while the wreckage of the car was towed to the area police station and an inquiry file was opened.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man was lynched in Kayole estate in Naivasha after he was cornered for breaking into a residential house.

During the incident, his two accomplices escaped as residents decried rising cases of housebreaking in the estate located off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The suspects had entered the residential plot and were in the process of breaking into one of the houses when the alarm was raised.

A witness, Peter Mwangi, said that members of the public managed to catch up with one suspect and beat him to death.

“We have recorded several cases of housebreaking during daytime and we suspect that this group is responsible,” he said.
