A parent accused of bribing besieged Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda Sh800,000 to help secure his son a job has denied the allegations.
While testifying for the DG in the ongoing impeachment hearing on Thursday, Joseph Misati said he never made any remittances amounting to Sh800,000 to Monda.
Instead, Misati said he, through his son's (Dennis Mokaya) phone numbers and through direct transfer from a bank account, wired a sum of Sh500,000 to the DG.
The money, he said, was to settle a debt that the DG had advanced to him sometime in October and November 2022.
"On May 28, 2023, my wife and four sons visited the DG at his home. It was me who made the appointment," he said.
He said during the meeting, he and the DG sat a distance from his sons and spoke in confidence for some minutes.
It was at that point that the DG reminded him of the debt he had advanced to him.
He said at that point, he instructed his wife to wire a sum of Sh251,000 from their joint bank account to the DG's M-Pesa account.
Misati said he also instructed his wife to wire the balance of Sh249,000 to Mokaya to withdraw and give cash to the DG.
However, there was no M-Pesa shop in town with the amount of cash.
As such, Mokaya sent the amount to Monda in batches.
On Wednesday, Mokaya testified for the county assembly where he revealed how he was forced to sell his family business to raise part of the money to bribe the DG.
Monda had reportedly demanded the bribe to help Misati secure a job for his son, Mokaya at the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company.
In an emotional submission before the senators hearing Monda’s impeachment case on Tuesday, Dennis Mokaya revealed how he sold his salon to raise Sh800,000 to bribe the deputy governor to secure him a job.
Misati was desperately seeking a job for their son, Mokaya, when they reached out to Monda, said to be a long-term friend, who promised to help him secure a job.
According to Mokaya, Monda had promised to help his father secure him (Mokaya) a job – a commercial manager – at the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company.
Mokaya spoke when he took the witness stand for the county assembly that is seeking to kick out the deputy governor over gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office, gross misconduct and crimes under national law.
