Four suspects were Saturday arrested following the brutal murder of an elderly woman and her daughter in a village in Suneka, Kisii County.
The two were killed on Saturday, March 16 morning following a land dispute among the family members.
According to the police, the bodies of Jane Kerubo Mogambi aged 80 and her daughter Damaceline Nyatuka Mogambi aged 35 were found in a house after a brutal murder.
The incident happened in the Bokeire sublocation within lyabe location.
The body of Nyatuka was found lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on the head, and a fracture on her right hand.
Kerubo died on arrival at the hospital. She too had deep cuts on her body.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both deceased had been murdered due to land issues.
Police said Nyatuka had returned home after a failed marriage and her mother planned to give her a piece of land.
This caused tension among some family members.
It wasn't until Saturday when they were suddenly killed in the house.
Police arrived at the scene and collected the bodies and moved them to the mortuary amid investigations.
An autopsy was planned at the local mortuary as part of the probe into the murder.
Among those in custody are the deceased’s relatives. Police said they are investigating to establish if more suspects were involved in the murder.
The detectives planned to produce the suspects in court with a miscellaneous application to hold them for two weeks as the probe continues.
Such murder incidents are on the rise in the area and land issues lead as the cause.
Elsewhere, detectives are investigating the murder of a 40-year-old man whose body was found in a trench in Ntulele, Narok County.
The man seemed to have been murdered elsewhere and the body was dumped at the site in the Nkaimererwa area in Idamat location.
Police officers rushed to the scene and found a half-naked body of an unknown middle-aged male adult approximately about 40 years old lying lifeless in a trench away from the bridge.
The body had visible injuries with bruises on the shoulder, head, buttocks, hip joints and the left harm and was suspected to have been murdered elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene.
The body was moved to Narok County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and autopsy.
In Loibor Lokony village in Ntulele location one John Kilwa Koroi aged 70 was found dead in a makeshift.
Police said they found the half-naked body of the deceased lying beside his makeshift house.
The body had no visible injuries but it was established that there was dry blood bleeding from his nose and mouth.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
