News anchor Victoria Rubadiri has officially assumed her role at CNN as Africa Correspondent.
Rubadiri joins CNN from Citizen TV where she was a senior anchor and reporter for years.
She will host CNN's long-running multiplatform series Connecting Africa as well as be part of the network’s newsgathering operation in Nairobi.
Rubadiri expressed joy on assuming her new role at CNN International.
"I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to work at CNN and to bring my experience and passion to its global audience. Connecting Africa champions the people, projects and companies revolutionising African business and I’m looking forward to working alongside Eleni and the team to get out on the ground and tell these stories."
Madowo, who previously hosted African Voices Changemakers before becomeing the CNN international correspondent, welcomed her to the network.
"Congrats and welcome to CNN, Victoria Rubadiri," he said.
Rubadiri joins the team to tell stories on emerging and expanding businesses across Africa and exploring the impacts of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement as the programme enters its fifth year.
She has extensive experience as a radio presenter both in Kenya and the US, where she studied for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia.
In 2020, she was awarded the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award for her exceptional talent in telling African stories.
Rubadiri becomes the latest high-profile news anchor to quit Citizen TV.
Last year, Waihiga Mwaura, a Komla Dumor award winner as well, joined the British Broadcast Corporation (BBC) as a senior news anchor for the Focus on Africa programme.
Then Senior Political Editor Francis Gachuri also left to work with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
This year, senior reporters Chemutai Goin and Hassan Mugambi also left to work with the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula and the Ministry of Defence, respectively.
