Deputy IG Kanja urges public support to enhance security

He encouraged members of the public to share information with police to help combat crime

Deputy Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has challenged residents of Nyanza and country at large to collaborate with the police for maximum security in their regions.

He said security is a collective responsibility and members of the public should play their part through sharing of vital information with police to combat crime.

Kanja who spoke when he presided over the official opening of Ragumo Police Station in Kisumu East subcounty on Friday, said constructive collaboration will engage security in the country.

The station was constructed by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

"I have visited Nyanza region for the first time since my appointment to affirm our commitment to closely with the public to towards security of the country," he said.

The DIG pledged that the Kenya Police Service will equip new police stations for proper service delivery to citizens.

"I have instructed the regional police commander Patrick Tito to ensure enough security officers are deployed at this station," he said.

Kanja said his office will work closely with like-minded MPs to strategically position police stations and have them equipped to offer services to the public.

Earlier, the DIG met all the Nyanza county commanders who assured him of concerted efforts towards in maintaining law and order.

He also visit Kasagam Police Station in Kisumu East constituency.

Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir said the station was constructed at Sh20 million through the NG-CDF.

Besides Ragumo, he said another police station in Kajulu will be completed early next year.

The NG-CDF is also putting up the subcounty headquarters at Kasagam, he said.

"We are doing the construction of police stations to help beef up security across the subcounty. We are optimistic that these initiatives will be of great benefit of locals here." .

The MP called for the purchase of a police vehicle to help the police deal with cases of insecurity within Ragumo, which he said is vast and has challenges of high crime rate.

"This area is prone to crime, especially thugs on motorbikes. It will be good if our officers are given a police vehicle to ease their movements," Shakeel said.
