Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has donated 500 goats to the Muslim community in honour of Eid al-Adha.
Speaking at Uhuru Park during the donation, Governor Sakaja reiterated his commitment to uniting the people of Nairobi through effective service delivery.
The goats were distributed to various parts of the City.
"This day is about sacrifice, God's providence and sharing. I opted to give a gift to our Muslim brothers and sisters of about 500 goats that will be distributed to various parts of the City," Sakaja said.
"Kindly pass my greetings to the Muslims Community and let them know that I value and love them. I wish them Eid Mubarak."
In the spirit of Eid, the Governor encouraged everyone to remember the less fortunate.
Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya, Nairobi, lauded Sakaja for standing them saying such donations help to build cohesion not only among Muslims but also with non-Muslims.
"We thank the governor for this donation. This donation will go a long way in helping not only Muslims but also others who are not Muslims. We always endeavour to celebrate this day with our brothers and sisters who are non-muslims," he said.
Sakaja also urged leaders in Nairobi to focus on fulfilling the promises made to their constituents and to shun divisive tribal politics.
Regarding the newly reopened Uhuru Park, he invited the public to enjoy the beautiful scenery, noting that the revamped park offers an opportunity for all Nairobians to celebrate their traditions.
