A section of protesters in Mombasa have set vehicles ablaze during the Tuesday demonstrations.

The agitated crowd was chanting anti-government slogans across the Mombasa towns.

In a video seen by the Star, at least five vehicles were seen burning as protesters steered clear.

Firefighters were at the scene putting out the fire.

This happened as protests intensified across the country with police lobbying tear gas to disperse them.

Businesses were at a standstill at Mwembe Tayari, the main stage of Mombasa County where there are booking stations.

Nawala Center, one of the busy business buildings is also closed as employees watch over the door as the protests continue unravelling. 

Police blocked protesters from going to Mombasa State House which is located along Mama Ngina Drive.

Police trucks and vans blocked the road with some officers patrolling on foot. 

In the morning, the demos were peaceful as protesters started walking from Digo Road to Jomo Kenyatta Avenue around the Saba Saba area before they came back to town.

As the day grew old, however, some goons joined in with some suspected thieves being beaten by the protesters before police rescued them.

Young protesters had announced that they would demonstrate despite President William Ruto rejecting the Finance Bill.

Last week, on Tuesday, businesses were paralyzed as government buildings were vandalized by rowdy youth who came to the streets to protest.

On Thursday of the same week, things were not different as goons took advantage of the situation and started robbing innocent people and business shops along the streets.
