As Kenyans pile pressure on President William Ruto to crack the whip on his cabinet and even kick out some Cabinet members, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has ruled out the possibility of him resigning.
The CS who heads the critical Interior Ministry at a time when Kenyans thronged to the streets to first protest against the Finance Bill, 2024 and later against the government said the thought of exiting office has not hit him.
Kindiki said that had the idea of exiting office crossed his mind over the current crisis facing the country, he would have voluntarily resigned.
“As to when I am resigning, that matter has not crossed my mind because I do not have a reason why I should resign," Kindiki said in an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday.
"If for whatever reason I was convinced that I have done anything that warrants my resignation, I would happily do so.”
The anti-government protests have seen senior state officials including Cabinet Secretaries in Ruto's administration put in the spotlight over their performance in the nearly two years they have been in office.
A section of Kenyans including civil society groups, opinion shoppers and even religious organisations have called on the President to reshuffle his cabinet in line with the expectations of Citizens.
They have at the same time called for the sacking of CSs who have been deemed underperformers.
Kindiki has, however, been ranked the best-performing cabinet secretary by opinion polls released since Ruto took office.
A survey by InfoTrak released on June 10 ranked Kindiki as the best-performing Cabinet Secretary.
Kindiki scored a B of 60 per cent to emerge top CS in addressing issues affecting Kenyans.
Aden Duale (Defence) came third with 50 per cent while Owalo and Tuya tied with 49 per cent.
The study said the Interior CS also performed well in communication, competency and service delivery.
On Communicating to Kenyans what they are doing, Kindiki topped with a 61 per cent score.
He is closely followed by CSs Ababu Namwamba and Aden Duale (Defence) both with C scores of 52 per cent and 51 per cent.
On Competency, Kindiki scored 60 per cent rating, while Ababu and Duale scored 52 per cent and 50 per cent respectively.
On the issue of success in improving how things are done in their ministries, Kindiki scored yet again a B of 61 per cent emerging top, while CS Ababu scored a C of 52 per cent.
During a roundtable meeting with the media at State House, on Sunday, President Ruto said his Cabinet could have done better in helping him lead the country.
