The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah now says that their X social media account has been hacked.
In a statement on Monday, Atellah also denied the suspension of their planned "Occupy MOH" protests.
He went on to say that they are doing all they can to regain control of the account.
"Dear Kenyans, Reports circulating to the effect that #OccupyMoH has been suspended is false. The union handle has been compromised and we are trying our best to gain control of it and clean.
"We must overhaul the system including those that have hacked the union handles. We remain strong. We remain focused. Tukutane MoH," Atellah said.
His remarks followed an earlier post on KMPDU's official X account saying that they had suspended their planned demonstration that was set to begin on Monday.
A statement which has since been deleted said the suspension of the demos was as a result of "ongoing talks with the Ministry of Health".
The doctors want the government to ensure all doctor interns are posted as per the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the ministry.
"We are suspending the occupation of Afya House. This decision comes as a result of ongoing discussions and commitments made towards ensuring all medical interns are posted in accordance with the 2017 CBA.
"We remain vigilant and committed to achieving fair outcomes for all interns," the deleted post read.
On Thursday, July 4, Atellah wrote to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander to provide security to the doctors who would be occupying the Ministry of Health headquarters starting Monday 8 am, until all intern doctors received their letters of as earlier agreed with the ministry.
"All protocols observed, we will be occupying Afya House until all medical interns are posted in line with the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)," KMPDU said on X.
In the letter, Atellah explained that a return to work formula date May 8, 2024 is yet to be fulfilled even at the lapse of 60 days as promised by the Ministry of Health.
"Reference is made to the return to work (RTWF) dated 8th May 2024 in which it was agreed that intern doctors would collect their internship letters within 60 days. This agreement, which was deposited in court referenced as EL032 and EL036 attached here, is yet to be fulfilled as of today. The 60 days lapses on July, 72024.
- "Consequently, we have scheduled a sit-in day at the Ministry of Health where all the medical interns will be ready to collect their letters as agreed and in compliance with the RTWF and court order on Monday July 8, 2024, starting at 9:00 am."
