The demonstrators poured into the Machakos streets baricading the Machakos - Kitui Road at Grogon area within Machakos Township minutes after 2.00 pm Thursday.

The protests come days after mobilisation posters went viral on social media indicating that there would be protests in Machakos County on July 11, 2024.

"OCCUPY MACHAKOS, Thursday 11th July 2024. We demand for accountability #occupymachakoswhitehouse," the poster reads.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti on Wednesday claimed some politicians ferry hired goons to Machakos County whenever there were demonstrations.

She cautioned criminals against what she termed as hijacking Gen Z's peaceful demonstrations.

"I hear they have said they will come to greet me. Let them try. We are waiting for them," Ndeti said during an event at Mbiuni in the Mwala subcounty on Wednesday.
