Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is now calling for speedy investigations into the murder of women whose bodies were recovered at a dumpsite in Kware, Mukuru kwa Njenga.

In a statement on Monday, Waiguru said the discovery of the eight mutilated bodies has been heavy on the heart of the country.

The governor condoled with the families of the victims, as she prayed for God's protection of the women of Kenya.

"This weekend has been heavy on the nation's heart with the discovery of 8 mutilated and dismembered bodies of women in Kware. We grieve for them and their families," Waiguru said.

"We all now call for comprehensive and speedy investigations including today's scheduled multi-stakeholder witnessed post-mortem. May God protect our daughters and women."

On Sunday, the Director of Criminal Investigations said the victims are all aged between 18 and 30 years old.

He said a post mortem will be conducted on Monday and invited all stakeholders including family members, civil society and the media to be present.

“The modus operandi was almost the same. If you look at the age, it was between 18-30. These are all female. If you look at how the bodies have been disguised and packaged - all the same,” Amin said.

The comments by Waiguru came even as the DCI announced the arrest of a prime suspect in the murder.

The suspect was arrested Monday morning in Kayole where he was hiding, officials said.

He however stays about 500 meters from the Kware dump site where at least ten badly mutilated bodies of women have been recovered in an operation.

According to police, the suspect had confessed to the serial killings.

One officer described him as a psychopath.

He was trailed to a house in Kayole where officials said he was again trying to lure a victim.

The bodies were discovered on different days, where six were discovered on Friday, July 12, two on Saturday and two more on Sunday, bringing the total to 10. The search for more continues today.

Detectives are pursuing three main theories in the discovery of bodies.

“Are we dealing with a cult that is associated with criminal activities? Are we dealing with serial killers that are also associated with criminal activities? Or even, could we be dealing with rogue medical practitioners who are dealing with criminal activities? All these are hypotheses we have tried to bring on board.”
