Former Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana has criticised Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka over plans to court Mt Kenya region.

In a statement on X, Kibwana said it did not add up for the Azimio co-principal to say he was fighting tribalism and then talk about courting the region.

The former Governor claimed that Kalonzo was being misadvised by his inner circle.

"How can you say you are fighting tribalism as the tribeless Gen Zs and then in the same breath state you are courting Mt Kenya? In 2027, national ideology will triumph over tribal politics," he said.

His sentiments come after Kalonzo launched a campaign to secure support from the region in a strategic move to unite the Kikuyu and Kamba people.

Speaking during a church function in Othaya, Nyeri County on Friday, Kalonzo assured the Kikuyu community of his unwavering commitment and support to their cause.

He pledged continued engagement and outreach to community leaders, even as he positions himself to win Mt Kenya's favour in the 2027 general elections.

At the time, Kalonzo revealed that he was in regular contact with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"We are building a strong team and we are inviting all leaders who want to change Kenya in real-time and in the right direction," he said.

"Without fear of intimidation, I have just talked to Uhuru on the phone before coming to this place. Uhuru had forewarned you and we want such straightforward leaders."

At the same time, the former Vice President said he wanted to be on the right side of history by standing with the Gen Zs.

This is in their quest to rid the country of corruption, tribalism and nepotism.

Kibwana however thought of this as doublespeak, drawing criticism over the stance of the Ukambani kingpin.
