Eldoret Gen Z stage birthday party for Uasin Gishu Governor Bii

A section of Eldoret Gen Z Thursday opted to host a birthday party for Governor Dr Jonathan Bii instead of taking to the streets.

They bought a cake and took it to the county headquarters where Bii joined them in celebrating his 56th birthday.

“You have surprised me today and I am excited because as young people you decided to honour me in a special way," said Governor Bii.

Bii said he was proud of the youth in the region for opting to keep peace and avoiding protests which would have disrupted normal business.

He said the gesture by the youth to host a party for him would make him put in more efforts to create jobs for the young win be region.

“You have remembered me and as young people, know that I will always put you first in our county programmes," said Bii.

A leader of the youth Eliud Kiptoo said they value peace but want the government to prioritize youth affairs in all activities.

“We are ready to participate in matters of development and not street protests because the government has already listened to our demands”, said Kiptoo.

He said they would dialogue as youth countrywide to stop any form of protests and engage in meaningful development activities.

Anti-riot police patrolled Eldoret town which remained calm with businesses running smoothly and no signs of protests.

Armed regular police and GSU teams patrolled all streets in the town where preparations are in top gear ahead of elevation to city status next week.

Uasin Gishu County police commander Benjamin Mwanthi said security was normal in the region.

“People are going on with their business as usual and we have no reports of disruptions anywhere," said Mwanthi.

There was enhanced security at Moi Girls High School which is hosting the Kenya Music Festivals with over 130,000 students and visitors in the town for the event.
