East African Community and ASAL Cabinet Secretary nominee Beatrice Askul has explained that the Sh100 million stated in her documents does not belong to her.

Speaking when she appeared before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments, Askul said her net worth belongs to her family and community.

She insisted that her culture allows them to live communally.

The CS nominee further explained that her husband has been working outside the country for the last 17 years, and the wealth is a culmination of his hard work.

She said the wealth is also in the form of property and none of it is in her name.

"I am from a pastoral community that is still rich in culture. There's nothing about me in that worth. It is not mine, there's nothing under my name but because culture allows us to live the way we live, in terms of communal life, and family life that worthiness is not cash. It is the property we have.

"As I said I'm married, my husband has worked in several places. He has been outside the country for 17 years. It is family worth. It is our net worth," Askul said.

She also refuted claims that her net worth was from her previous job in Turkana County where she worked as a County Executive Committee member.
