Police are investigating an incident in which a KWS ranger shot himself dead on Saturday morning after allegedly killing a man in Rongai Town, Kajiado North Sub County.

The deceased ranger is said to have stormed a nightclub in Rongai in the wee hours of Saturday morning and shot the person dead before taking his life.

The nightclub is in the Tumaini Area along Mugis Road.

A police report filed at Ongata Rongai Police Station indicates that the ranger entered the club and ordered it closed. 

He then instructed everyone who was inside to lie down and cover their faces during which he shot one person dead.

"He proceeded to shoot one person three times in the back and on the head and directed that everyone remain in that position till morning," a police report stated.

Sources aware of the tragedy said the ranger had a confrontation with the deceased on Friday around 8pm.

He is said to have left the club and later returned armed and shot the deceased.

Sources say the suspect fled the scene on a motorbike and took a direction heading towards Nairobi.

The ranger is said to have gone to his house where took away his life.

It was established that the officer was on guard duties within the Central Workshop at the time he committed the offence.

At his house, police recovered a magazine containing 20 live bullets.

"The gun and the ammunition have been kept as exhibit awaiting ballistic examination," a Police report filed at Lang'ata Police station said.

The Rongai nightclub scene was also processed and three spent cartridges were recovered and kept as an exhibit.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased ranger has been preserved at Nairobi Funeral Home.
